Friday the 13th may have proved unlucky for some of the lower-ranked teams playing in the 2014-15 GMP Ultimate Basketball League (UBL) but not for those with playoff aspirations.
Competition leaders Glebe Magic powered to a 104-70 win over South Thunder to remain at the top of the ladder but the second-placed Parramatta Wildcats kept closely on their tails, scoring an important 77-68 win over club-mates ACBA Dragons.
Sam Gyimah (20 points, 9 boards) and Devon Sullivan (19 points, 12 boards) provided the Wildcats with just enough strength on the boards to repel the Dragons, despite the best efforts of their power forward Egange Ayuk.
The Dragons now appear destined to miss out on the playoffs, as the top four teams (Magic, Wildcats, Obilic and Sydney City Cobras) have all shot away, several points ahead of the pack.
The Wildcats however are sure to make life very interesting in the final two rounds.
Not only will the Wildcats be chasing the Magic for the minor premiership, they can also spoil the Cobras playoff plans, when the two teams meet this Friday night at the Auburn Basketball Centre.
This will undoubtedly be the Game of the Round, with tip-off at 7.45pm.
