A very successful weekend in the UBL Sydney Summer League with a number of key players back on deck for round 5 with the return of many ACBA players from an overseas tour.
In our feature game of the weekend the City Sonics welcomed NBL veteran and Sydney Jnr Ben Knight to their line up and with the absence of Tom Dawson it appeared to be perfect timing as Knight contributed with 14 points and 20 rebounds for the game as Sonics only suiting up 5 players and were pushed by the South Sydney Wolves led by point guard Mahesh Padmanabhan (36 points) as the City Sonics experienced their 2nd OT match in the UBL but closed the game strong with a 79-75 victory.

The Wests Lions were excited by their first win of the season as they faced the Central Bulls who were looking like the team to beat but with a consistent spread of support from the Lions and the return of key play maker Tony Tolovae the young players were treated to a great display of team work and effort. Stand out for the Lions was Patrick O'Brien who has been really elevating his game after a great Youth League season for the Parramatta Wildcats in last seasons Waratah competition.

Sydney Royals continued their great form led by their hardworking bigs in Igor Bosnjak (19pts, 23 reb) and Charles Bloemen (16pts, 16reb) collectively achieving 39 rebounds between the two players and led the Royals to a 77-67 victory and cement themselves in the 2nd spot on the Ladder.

In our first of double headers for the weekend the Norwest Giants looked to face Parra Wildcats who welcomed back the return of Graeme Dann and with some great shooting and play making by Steve Leven (34pts, 5asts) the Wildcats picked up a 97-89 win. Norwest Giants were in the game the whole way through and in many parts leading but the smart play and leadership of the Wildcats were too much for the newly formed Giants team. Jordan Lumkon (23pts, 12asts, 5stls) continued to shine in the Sydney Summer League as the Giants look to answer back next week against the in form Sydney Royals to start round 6.
